A 100% pass rate has been reported in the College of Optometrists’ Therapeutics Common Final Assessment in Independent Prescribing.
All 30 candidates, who were the first to sit the exam, are now entitled to use the DipTp (IP) affix and can apply to have the independent prescribing speciality entered against their name on the Opticians Register.
The multiple-choice assessment tested optometrists on their clinical decision-making using scenarios based on conditions covered by the College’s Clinical Management Guidelines.
Director of Education at the College, Josephine Mullin, said: “I am delighted to announce this exceptional result. The 30 candidates who passed this assessment have made history by becoming the first group of optometrists qualified to prescribe any licensed medicine for ocular conditions affecting the eye and adnexa, within their recognised area of expertise and competence.”
