Charity calls for Christmas support

August 22 2012

In partnership with Crisis at Christmas, Vision Care for Homeless People is calling for volunteers to screen and dispense spectacles to London’s homeless during the Festive period.

The charity is seeking optometrists and dispensing opticians to help screen up to 250 people over Christmas.

Optometrist Robert Whitehead, who has been volunteering with the charity for four years, said: “I find the two days very rewarding as we have such a mix of people who have lost their jobs and end up homeless, from all walks of life. There is great camaraderie and it is a safe environment. We have the appropriate domiciliary kit and work alongside an ophthalmologist so we can refer anything straight away.”

The charity is also appealing for donations of men’s ready readers, a portable slit lamp and spectacle cases.
