Celebs back SPECtacular appeal

August 20 2012

Comedians Harry Hill (pictured) and Jenny Eclair have joined actress Judi Dench to support SPECtacular Friday, an appeal by the charity SeeAbility.

The new initiative, which is also backed by television personalities Nicky Hambleton-Jones and Nick Hewer, aims to help people with learning disabilities access appropriate eye care and prevent avoidable sight loss.

While it is estimated that in the UK one million adults have a learning disability, people with a learning disability are 10 times more likely to have a serious sight problem than others.

Speaking about the campaign, which will be launched later this year, Mr Hill said: “I was eight when I first started wearing glasses and straightaway the insults started. Everyone should have access to eye tests. Join me in supporting SeeAbility so that people with learning disabilities can get the help they need to access eye tests too.”
