A total of 287 pre-reg practitioners have passed their OSCE to become fully-qualified optometrists.
The pass rate reached 83% this year, which is 5% up on last year’s figures.
Commenting on the results, Jacqueline Martin (pictured), director of education at the College of Optometrists, said: “We’re delighted the pass rate is up and would like to congratulate everyone who passed the examination. We would expect such an increase at this stage for a new style exam, as universities, supervisors and training providers, who support trainees in their preparation for the exams, improve their understanding of the OSCEs.
“We encourage candidates who were not successful in these exams to talk to their supervisor or contact the College. We will do our utmost to support them and help them qualify in future exam sessions.”
Karen Sparrow, education advisor at the AOP, added: “Congratulations to these students who have been extremely focused and well organised, working really hard to pass their OSCEs and register with the General Optical Council in 12 months. The overall cohort pass rate remains relatively unchanged with around 40% registering with the GOC in August and around 98% by Christmas.”
