A 2.5% rise in the CET grant which optometrists and ophthalmic practitioners in Scotland and Wales can claim for training in 2011 has been confirmed.
The hike to £503 mirrors the annual allowance announced for practitioners in England last month.
Chief operating officer for Optometry Wales, Sali Davies, told OT: “OW are pleased with the recent announcement and we continue to work closely with our colleagues in Welsh Government to ensure that our devolved administration is made aware of the need to reflect increases in line with inflation, despite the current economic climate”
An increase to the pre-registration supervisors grant has also been reported, with the fee rising to £3,245 from £3,166 the previous year.
Claims from trainers taking on pre-reg optometrists on or after April 1, 2012 will be paid at the new rate.
Welcoming the news, AOP education adviser, Karen Sparrow, added: “It is good to see Scotland and Wales mirroring the recent increase in CET and pre-reg supervisor grants in England.”
Practitioners have until November 30 to submit their claim for loss of earnings due to CET undertaken in 2011.
