Scottish retinal imaging company Optos is amongt a number of high profile UK companies selected to appear in an exhibition highlighting British manufacturing which opened at the Science Museum on Tuesday (July 24).
The exhibition aims to dispel the myth among the public that Britain doesn’t make anything anymore, and educate visitors about the value of manufacturing to the UK economy.
Officially opened by business secretary Vince Cable, the show is part of an initiative launched by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to challenge what it believes is outdated opinions of the UK manufacturing industry.
Optos CEO, Roy Davis, said: “We’re passionate about UK manufacturing, and we hope that through this exhibition people will realise what a vibrant manufacturing industry we have, one that we can be proud of.”
The exhibition is free to attend and will run until September 9.
Business minister Mark Prisk added: “The future of manufacturing in the UK is bright. The Make it in Great Britain exhibition showcases a mix of forward-thinking businesses from a range of sectors, which will give the public a real flavour of what modern manufacturing is all about, and demonstrate first-hand the exciting and rewarding career opportunities available today.”
