Independent is the first to offer new routine Daytona service

June 21 2012

Independent Tompkins Knight & Son has set a UK precedent after revealing that it will become the first practice to offer Optos' new Daytona eye care technology as part of its routine eye examination.

Following a redevelopment of its Northampton-based opticians earlier this year, optometrist Brian Tompkins will now offer the device in practice, which will improve practitioners’ ability to diagnose a range of eye and non eye-related diseases.

The technology, created by retinal firm Optos, provides 200-degree views of the retina in a single capture. As a result, practitioners are able to view 82% of the retina through high-resolution images known as an Optomap. The device can be used to detect signs of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and glaucoma.

“I am proud to be able to offer the ultra-wide retinal imaging with Daytona to our patients,” Mr Tompkins commented.

“It will help us to detect common eye conditions earlier than we might otherwise achieve and provide our patients with access to referral for treatment when appropriate.”
