Optics category added to annual awards

March 23 2012

The Macular Disease Society has confirmed the introduction of a new category to recognise the achievements of optometrists and opticians in the UK in its Awards.

Nominations are now open for all categories in the Macular Disease Society’s 25th Anniversary Awards for Excellence, including the new Optician or Optometrist of the Year.

The award asks for nominations for ‘opticians and optometrists working in any environment, such as High Street business, hospital or a local society who provides outstanding services to people with macular disease.

Helen Jackman (pictured), chief executive of the Macular Disease Society, said: “We are so grateful for the dedication and hard work eye care professionals put into improving the lives of people with macular disease.

“I’m pleased that as part of our 25th anniversary we can celebrate the achievements of professionals who are showing examples of best practice.”

The closing date for entries is May 31, with the winner announced at the Society’s annual conference in September.
