MD retires

March 22 2012

Managing director of David Thomas Contact Lenses, William Thomas (pictured right) will retire at the end of March, the contact lens company has announced.

After completing a business degree Mr Thomas joined an assurance company before moving on to work at David Thomas Contact Lenses which was opened by his father David in 1972.

The company moved to Northampton in 1976, where it became an established RGP lens manufacturer, before later producing lathe cut soft contact lenses. Over the years the business has acquired a number of other contact lens manufacturers including Nova Contact Lenses and Menicon.

Mr Thomas joined the BCLA Council as a technical section representative in 2005, later becoming treasurer and then president in 2009. He currently serves on the Association’s executive committee, completing his term in May.
