Originally from South Wales, Ceri Smith-Jaynes is an optometrist currently working in independent practice in Lytham St Annes and Blackburn. She studied optometry at UMIST, graduating in 1999, where she won the year prize for pharmacology and went on to do her pre-reg with Dollond and Aitchison, staying with the multiple for five years after qualifying.

Ceri has been a pre-reg supervisor and has also supervised at the University of Manchester undergraduate refraction clinics. Her special interests include dry eye, Sportvision and irregular-cornea contact lens fitting. She has additionally given CET presentations on 'Punctal plugs and the management of dry eye' and is the low vision lead for the East Lancashire Local Optometric Committee.

BBC Radio Lancashire calls upon Ceri from time to time to set the record straight on the latest eye-related topics.

Outside of optometry, Ceri was involved in the marketing of iTeddy, making a video and advert for the launch of the toy designed by her optometrist-friend, Imran Hakim, which was eventually taken to the Dragons’ Den for investment.

Ceri is keen to get the optometric community using OT online for training and communication, recognising the multifarious uses of multimedia to support the familiar printed magazine.
