Did you know that up to 1 million children in the UK currently have an undetected vision problem?
Poor eyesight can have a significant effect on a child's ability to learn, yet it often goes unrecognised by teachers, parents and by children themselves.
The AOP, as part of the Optical Confederation, is continuing its efforts to reach parents and school professionals by highlighting the importance of children’s eye health. Last year the Association wrote to headteachers in 23,000 primary schools across the UK, offering information, advice and resources to schools to get its message across.
The 2011 campaign has a ‘Back to School’ theme. There is a new campaign poster which the AOP would like to see displayed, not only in schools, but also in optometrist practices up and down the country. For more information about the campaign, including how to download and customise your own poster, please visit the AOP website or email us.
The short videos below explain the benefits of early sight testing for children and include some top tips on how to make it a simple and effective experience for the optometrist, parent and child.
