Eye care practitioners are faced with shelves of contact lens care products in optical practices every day. Most practitioners are likely to have a trusted favourite that seems to "work for everyone" and a variety of "stand-by" brands in case of incompatibility with the first choice. Most optical practices offer several brands of lens care products with similar descriptions on their labels and packaging. However, the differences between them may not be obvious to patients, optical assistants and even some clinicians. This article explains why eye care practitioners should actively prescribe and recommend contact lens care products to their patients, in order to improve wearing experience, comfort, lens disinfection and biocompatibility.
